I didn't intend to create sector lights when I started to work on the lighthouses project two years ago. But Gap made me discover them and asked me to find a solution to simulate them in Silent Hunter. So, I liked the idea, and tried to find a trick. Unfortunately, until now, it seems impossible to simulate perfectly this kind of light, even if the main idea (knowing in what colored sector we are sailing) can be done, as I will explain below...

Currently, the best way to simulate a sector light is to make two aligned particle generators turning with a world-aligned halo changing of color over the rotation. When both halos are aligned and coming from the right side, the color of the halo corresponds to the color of the sector where you're sailing. Then, you can have an idea of your position on your navigation map with the specific icon of the light which represents the colored sectors.

I've created the flashing light and the sector light effects and animations for La Vieille lighthouse (note : the 3D model is the one found in GWX IIRC, with a texture made by me). You can have a look directly in SH3 by installing this mod and launching the mission called "EXPLORE".
